UMA 15TH CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2010

19/07/2010 The UMA 15th CNS Open Golf Championship concluded here Sunday with a colorful prize distribution ceremony. 380 golf players from around the country including 107 professionals competed in this flagship event of Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Golf Federation which is the biggest golf event to be held in Pakistan ever with the prize money of 3 million pakistani rupees to be distributed among the professionals. Shabbir Iqbal of Pakistan Navy finished with three under 285 to win the crown for the sixth time in the richest-ever golf tournament of the country played at the Karachi Golf Club. Defending champion Mohammad Ali Hai made a remarkable comeback to retain his amateur title. Naba Hassan of DHA Golf Club topped among the ladies. Commander Logistics, Vice-Admiral Asif Sandila graced the occasion as the chief guest after Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir could not arrive due to pressing commitments in Islamabad. Speaking at the occasion, CEO of United Marine Agencies (UMA) – the main sponsors of the tournament, Mr. Sohail Shams recounted his organization’s achievements in the logistics sector. He also highlighted UMA’s contribution to the society, special among which was the sponsorship to golf and other sports. Mr. Shams also dwelt on the need and the importance of supporting such sporting events to convey a positive image of the Pakistani society to the world. At the end of the ceremony, Shabbir got a winning purse of Rs. 494, 110 from the Vice-Admiral Sandila. The chief guest also handed over the key of Toyota Altis to Lahore’s Mohammad Asif for his Hole-in-One feat. Show All
