UMA GOLF AT KGC ON MARCH 22-23

25/03/2009 Muhammad Ali Hai carded a brilliant two-under par 70 to win the first UMA Golf Tournament 2009 at the Karachi Golf Club here on Sunday. Ali was in brilliant form as he easily won the amateur title of the tournament by five strokes with experienced golfer Cmndr Asnar Memood finishing as the runner-up. The United Marine Agencies (UMA) held its first Uma Golf Tournament 2009 at the KGC on March 22-23, amidst much fan-fare marking Pakistan’s Republic Day. Categories such as Ladies, Juniors, Seniors and Veterans were played on March 22 while the main tournament was played on March 23. A very large number of Golfers enthusiastically participated in this club tournament which saw a total 295 entries which also included 38 guests of the sponsors. The prize distribution ceremony was preceded by a flag hoisting ceremony to mark the Pakistan Day along with the National anthem played by the Naval Band. Vice Admiral Saleem Ahmad Meenai, Commander Karachi, Pakistan Navy, was the Chief guest on the occasion, Later, the Karachi Golf Club clock was unveiled by Meenai, which the UMA presented as their contribution towards the improvement of KGC. Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Shams, Chief Executive Officer of UMA expressed his willingness to sponsor this tournament every year to mark the Pakistan Day – he thanked the COMKAR for his support, as well as the KGC management of for all their cooperation and assistance in organizing the event in a most befitting manner. Meenai appreciated the in stallation of the KGC Clock and the construction of the flag stand. The club Captain, Asad I A Khan, was full of praise and thanked Sohail Shams for his whole-hearted support to the KGC. Show All
